Recipes: Smoothies!

Posted by T. Friday, April 16, 2010

I owe you a couple for days missed so here are a few green smoothie recipes…

The basic directions for each of these is to chop them up into small pieces, or even process in your food processor. Combine everything and blend in the blender until smooth. Another shortcut you can use, although, not quite as good, is to buy the frozen fruit chunks in the store. They are blanched, but better than going without. Make sure you add a huge handful of greens! If you need the extra calories, add a handful of cashews to each smoothie. These smoothies will help to balance your hormones (don’t worry, it cannot hurt guys :) ) and replenish your body of much needed Vitamin K (a deficiency causes heavy menstrual cycles, bad cramps and in-between cycle pain). They also will help you to lose weight if you need to. If you add the nuts you shouldn’t loose weight. If you do lose and you don’t want to, add more nuts, more bananas and/or some flax oil or flax seed. All are very good for you and will help you to maintain or even gain weight.

1:
1 mango, peeled and pit removed
1 c kale, chopped
1 c water

2:
1 handful of dandelion greens
2 stalks of celery
½ inch fresh ginger
½ pineapple

3:
3 c cantaloupe, cubed
1 bunch parsley

4:
1 bunch parsley
1 cucumber (I wash it and leave the peel on)
1 apple
1 banana
1-2 c water

5:
3 c dandelion greens
1 apple
1 c water
1 mango
1 peach

  2. Thanks for the tip about the cashews and flax seeds. I usually wonder what to add to smoothies (without using dairy) to add calories. I also wonder if avacadoes are good in smoothies. I haven't tried adding them, but I know they are high in calories...

I'll have to try the dandelion green smoothie later in the summer. Those grow in abundance around here!
